This small pousada makes you feel like a guest at a cool Brazilian beach house. Its location in Jericoacoara village puts it close enough to the bustling main street – just 10 minutes walk – but far away enough that when you want to go to the beach, there’s a quiet area to set up chairs, umbrella and beach service from the pool bar. The decor is influenced by the Mediterranean hotels infused with elements of Ceará and the Brazilian Northeast, and that is repeated into the restaurant menu. The sunset from the pousada’s pool is the best way to cool down after spending the day exploring the national park that surrounds the village.
Considered Brazil’s most exclusive beach destination, Fernando de Noronha, located 340km off the Brazilian coast, is a place for few lucky ones. Cristalino Lodge sits in splendid isolation on the edge of the Amazon region and the absence of human activity creates a haven for wildlife. The lodge was created to preserve an area bigger than the island of Manhattan, every aspect of its administration, from the hiring of the staff from local communities, to growing most of their own food, and the natural filtration system for wastewater was executed to be as sustainable as possible. The solar powered rooms all have ceiling fans and cooling air flow, and bungalows are isolated enough that capybaras feel at ease to come to graze. The unforgettable activities include an early morning hike to see the cloud of condensation emerge from the trees as the sun rises, the afternoon visit to the parrot clay lick, and kayaking down the Cristalino river, watching the river otters, then switching to the boat to catch the beautiful Amazon sunset with a bottle of wine.

Comuna do Ibitipoca – Located in a stunning valley of Atlantic Forest mountains, in Minas Gerais state, Ibitipoca is the name of the village and the state park that is adjacent to the property. In fact, the private reserve created by the Comuna is now larger than the park itself. Besides the forest, guests can also experience another of Brazil’s biomes, the cerrado, the savanna of the Americas. Nature hikes with surprises along the way, waterfalls, incredible vistas and the carefully restored colonial estate, make Ibitipoca one of the most unexpected destinations in Brazil. The heritage farm of the 18th century is the main accommodation complex of the property, but there are also smaller and charming options for private experiences throughout the property. Minas Gerais is famous for their country-style hospitality but it’s their cuisine that shines as a way of showing you that you are welcomed. Don’t be shy if you want to peek into the kitchen to learn or observe how these delicious delicacies are made.
